In order to improve the security of the Jagiellonian University computer network and simplify the login process, the IT Centre is launching a new solution supporting VPN connections (formerly referred to as ‘extranet’). Until now, you have been using Pulse Secure software to establish VPN connections when accessing systems such as USOS, SAP, and MAXQDA from outside the Jagiellonian University network.
The existing solution will continue to function until the end of January 2026.
Please read the instructions below and start using the new VPN solution.
The new and existing VPN clients cannot be run simultaneously.
With the new solution, there is no need to manually configure each profile. Simply log in to your account and the connection will be automatically established with all assigned profiles.
If you still cannot access a specific service after logging into the VPN, this may mean that you do not have permissions for that profile. You can check the current list of assigned extranet profiles in the Jagiellonian University Personal Identity Profile service (in the Other Services tab, in the Extranet table).

To configure the VPN client on your computer, start by going to vpn.uj.edu.pl, where you should select the University ID option and enter your login details for your uj.edu.pl account.
After logging in, select the first tile labelled Big-IP Edge Client (Klient VPN dla Windows), the application will begin downloading. Once the download is complete, open the BIGIPEdgeClientsignature.exe file. You can do this by clicking on the notification that pops up in your browser or by opening the Downloads folder on your computer.
A message will appear Czy chcesz zezwolić aplikacji na wprowadzenie zmian na tym urządzeniu?. Select Yes. The application installation process will begin. Go through the subsequent windows by selecting Next, Install, and Finish.
You can find the application in the taskbar by typing its name (Big-IP Edge Client) in the search box.
Once launched, it will also appear in the taskbar in the lower right corner of the screen in the hidden icons.
After launching the application, select the University ID option, then log in using your uj.edu.pl account credentials.
If the login is successful, the application will display the message Connected, and the Connect button will change to a darker colour.

For computers running macOS, download the application from the AppStore by searching for F5 Access. Make sure you search in the Mac Appstab to find the correct version of the programme.
Once the installation is complete, launch the application.
After installation, you can also find the application in your system applications.
Here, you can also search for it by entering its name.
A message will appear saying „F5 Access” would like to use a new network extension. Select the Open system settings option.
In the window that appears, click on the slider next to the application name.
Confirm the action using Touch ID or by entering your password.
In the next window, the message Note: Disabling the system extension will make sure that it will not be launched after reboot, but it does not guarantee that it will be terminated immediately. Select the OK option.
After confirming the message, select the Done option.
Then, at the top of the screen, click on the F5 Access. From there, select Manage VPN Configurations.
After launching the application, click on the plus sign to configure a new connection.
The message „F5 Access” Would like to add VPN Configurations will appear. Select Allow.
In the VPN Name field, enter the name of the connection (you can use any name, e.g. VPN UJ). In the Server field, enter vpn.uj.edu.pl - this field is important for establishing a correct connection. Make sure that the address has been entered correctly. It is also important to enable the Web Logon option. After making the changes, select Apply.
The server does not allow passwords to be saved.
To establish a connection, select F5 Access at the top of the screen, then Connect to „UJ”. If the application is not running, launch it by searching for it in your applications.
When logging in, select the JU email option.
Enter your login details for your uj.edu.pl domain account.
Once the connection has been successfully established, a green dot should appear at the top of the screen next to the name F5 Access.
After going to (Manage VPN Configurations), the status Connected should also be displayed.
In order to download the F5 Access application on an Android mobile device (e.g. phone, tablet), search for it in the Google Play Store and then install it.
Once the installation process is complete, launch the application and proceed to configure the connection via the Configure server option.
In the Enter configuration name field, enter the name of the connection (you can use any name, e.g. VPN UJ). In the Enter server url field,enter vpn.uj.edu.pl- this field is important for establishing a proper connection. Make sure that the address has been entered correctly. Select Next at the bottom of the screen.
In the next window, enable the Web Logon option by selecting the square on the right. To save the settings, select the confirmation icon in the upper right corner of the screen.
To establish a connection, select Connect.
A message will appear asking: Allow F5 Access to make and manage phone calls?.This is not necessary for the application to work, so you can select Do not allow (and then confirm the action by selecting I’m sure).
In the next window, you will be asked if you want to activate the application. Select the option Activate this application to administer the device. On some devices, an additional message regarding permissions may appear, which you must also accept.
A login window will appear. Select the University ID option and log in using your uj.edu.pl domain account credentials.
In the next window, allow the application to send notifications.
A message will appear requesting a connection to establish a VPN connection allowing access to selected university systems. Please approve it.
Once the connection is established, the application should display the status Connected, and the notification bar will display a key icon or the word VPN.
To download the F5 Access application on an iOS mobile device (e.g. phone, tablet), search for it in the AppStore and then install it.
Once the installation process is complete, launch the application. The F5 Terms and Conditions message will appear; select Agree.
In the next window, the message „F5 Access” Would like to send you notifications will appear; select Allow.
After going to the main screen of the application, select Add New.
A connection configuration window will appear. In the Description field, enter the name of the connection (you can use any name, e.g. VPN UJ). In the Server field, enter vpn.uj.edu.pl - this field is important for establishing a proper connection. Make sure that the address has been entered correctly. It is also important to enable the Web Logon by moving the slider. Select the Save option at the top of the screen.
The message „F5 Access” Would like to add VPN configurations. Select the Allow option.
To establish a connection, click on the slider next to the Connection option.
A login window will appear. Select the University ID option and log in using your uj.edu.pl domain account credentials.
Once the connection is established, the application should display the status Connected,
and the notification bar will display a key icon or the word VPN.
To configure the VPN client on a Linux computer, start by going to vpn.uj.edu.pl, where you should select the University ID option and enter your login details for your uj.edu.pl account. The manufacturer recommends using the Firefox browser.
After logging in, select the tile labelled VPN Access Intranet. It will appear automatically once the browser detects which operating system your computer is using.
After clicking, you will receive a message saying Browser needs permission to start VPN. Select the Start button.
Then wait a moment and when you see the message Waiting for Network Access Application status status, click More options.
Next, select the Install Install button.
You will see a window saying Network access client components are required. Select the appropriate package for your Linux system and click Download.
Once the download is complete, run the file.
In the window that appears, click Install.
Once the installation is complete, close the window by clicking on the close button.
Then close the Network access client components are recuired window as well.
Return to vpn.uj.edu.pl and then select the VPN Access Intranet tile again.
In the Browser needs permission to start VPN window, select Start.
After a moment, a window with connection details should appear.
The installation steps need to be performed only once. From then on, you will only need to use the VPN Access Intranet tile to log in.
